Cute Elmo Cake Pops & Tips

Cake pops have for long been a fun baking item in my house. However, we don’t do them like many…where you make a regular cake and then crumble it up and freeze it and then add to frosting and shape balls with hand! Oh no….that is too much and the cake pops end up tasting very gooey and almost uncooked.

Instead, we bought those nifty cake pop pans. I know, who wants to invest in pans? Well, we did because we make them all the time. They were $19.99 at Michaels Craft Store and you just wait until they have a coupon for 40 or 50% off an item. Perfecto! We now have two pan sets for making more in a shorter time. Only downside to the pans are: 1.when you spray them with non-stick they have holes that get spray everywhere so be sure to do this outside, and 2.the little clips to hold the sides down got lost but we found that wooden clothespins work great.

My oldest son Matthew, 16, loves to help me with this. In fact, it is to the point where he can just do it all himself. I usually step in and help with the more detailed tips and tricks to make them look and taste a little better. But he sure is my little mini-me in the kitchen.

Step one is making the cake batter. You can do it normal or add a box of pudding mix to the batter if you want a moister pop. Pour into the cake pop pans, close pans and bake. When done, remove from pan and allow to cool. The next steps are fun:
